How did it all begin?
Sport for Life! started in December 2006 as a legacy programme for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 in the West Indies. Lord Richard Newby and Jane Power of Live Consulting agreed the first outline of the programmes with the far-sighted Stephen Alleyne, CEO of World Cup Barbados.
Since Stephen's untimely death in October 2008, Live Consulting has spread the concept of the programme to the Barbados Cricket Association, Kensington Oval Management Inc., the Minister of Sport and St Lucia National Cricket Association, the Queen's Park Cricket Club, Trinidad and Tobago and Arnos Vale in St Vincent & The Grenadines.
Each country has established a not-for-profit company, Sport for Life! Inc., with a board of directors drawn from government, business and sport.
Having started the programme in the Caribbean, a decision was taken in 2009 to begin a similar programme in Pakistan, given the tremendous support for cricket across the country and the existence of a number of test match standard cricket grounds with facilities which could be made available for educational and community uses.
In 2009 Live Sport Community Interest Company Ltd. took over the project management and ownership of Sport for Life! International in London, UK, and plays a key part in the development of Sport for Life! In Pakistan, a Trust has been established with Trustees drawn from Pakistan and from the UK.
